Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Easy Blueberry Jam:
Ingredients:
- 4 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp lemon zest (optional)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 packet (about 1.75 oz) fruit pectin (optional, for thicker jam)
Instructions:
- Prepare the blueberries: If using fresh blueberries, rinse them well. If using frozen, there’s no need to thaw them. Place the blueberries in a large saucepan or pot.
- Cook the blueberries: Add the water to the pan and cook over medium heat. Stir occasionally, mashing the blueberries with the back of a spoon or potato masher to release their juices.
- Add sugar and lemon: Once the blueberries are softened, add the sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest (if using). Stir well until the sugar dissolves.
- Cook the jam: Bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens. You can test the consistency by placing a spoonful of jam on a cold plate and letting it sit for a minute. Run your finger through it, and if it wrinkles and holds its shape, it’s done. If it’s too runny, continue cooking for a few more minutes.
- Add pectin (optional): If you prefer a thicker jam, you can add the fruit pectin according to the package instructions during the last few minutes of cooking. This will help the jam set more firmly.
- Jar the jam: Once the jam has thickened to your liking, remove it from the heat. Let it cool slightly before transferring it to sterilized jars. Seal the jars while hot, or you can store it in the fridge and use it within a few weeks.
Tips:
- If you’d like to make the jam a bit smoother, you can blend it with an immersion blender.
- For a chunkier jam, mash the blueberries less while cooking.
- This recipe can easily be doubled or halved depending on how much jam you’d like to make.
Enjoy your easy homemade blueberry jam on toast, yogurt, or in desserts!
